Founded in 535 AD during the Liang Dynasty, Gao Liuhe Market in Yangchun inherited a rich historical heritage.
Madam Xian and Feng Bao established Yangchun County City at Liang Sa hill and a beacon tower at carp hill north of Gao Liuhe,defending Yangchun City and Gaoliang County.During the Chen Dynasty, Governor Ouyang Ge and General Wang Zhongxuan rebelled in Guangzhou.Madam Xian led troops from Gao Liuhe to suppress the rebellion, achieving success within six months alongside General Zhang Zhaoda.
Due to Madam Xian’s success, they were appointed officials and received abundant gifts bestowed by the emperor.
In the second winter after the victory(570 AD), a celebration was held in the Gao Liuhe River to commemorate fallen soldiers, reward brave warriors, display gifts bestowed by the emperor, and establish Gao Liuhe market for trade. This tradition has continued for over 1400 years, featuring the exchange of bamboo, wood, and woven goods, marking it as a grand event involving hundreds of thousands of people.
